Pantech IM-U140 Auto-Popup Sliding Phone With DMB

September 6th, 2006

This Pantech IM-U140, which looks quite similar to my T-Mobile MDA, has an auto-popup screen that moves up to a 30-degree angle when users press the button. The screen is 2.6-inches wide, is QVGA, and plays back DMB TV. The phone itself has a 3 megapixel camera and PictBridge, so you can print out the pictures easily. There’s also TV-Out so you can play the DMB on a real TV, 4 channel stereo speakers, and a touch screen. Slim chance this phone or anything like it will be available to the US in the next year or two.

Samsung unveils latest do-all compact camera the SDC-MS61

September 2nd, 2006

Samsung SDC-MS61

Instead of waiting for the upcoming photography trade show coming up at the end of the month, Samsung launched its latest compact, the SDC-MS61 at IFA.

The photography technology is nothing special on this camera, but the audio capability and webcam functions are, and combined with its chic black look, the camera is bound to win over many in the run up to Christmas.

Samsung haven’t tried pixel-cramming with this latest model, choosing instead to load it with a 6MP sensor with the ability to boost the ISO up to 1600.

On the rear is a generous 3.0-inch LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ration, so that MPEG4 videos can be shot widescreen.

The SDC-MS61 captures video at 30fps, has a 3x optical zoom, stores, records, and plays back MP3 files, and functions as a live-view webcam when connected to a PC.

There’s no word yet on pricing or availability in the UK, but look out for announcements in the coming weeks.

Philips Pronto Pro TSU9600

Philips Pronto Pro TSU9600

From what we’re told, Philips is keeping tight lipped about their latest Pronto megamote, but it sounds like they’re close to launching it at the CEDIA home entertainment expo coming up next month. Supposedly the TSU-9600 will feature everything from a 3.7-inch VGA touchscreen display to IR and wireless extenders, a soft touch finish, and features improved IR learning, PC macro downloads, even voice recognition. This is sure to be one of those you can’t afford it if you have to ask the price scenarios, but we’ll keep you apprised as to its existence (or arrival, as it were) when the time comes.

Nokia N93

August 24th, 2006

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Now that the new Nokia N93 has been announced, I have been stuck with a very peculiar dilemma: whether to go for the N93 or the N91. Did I just say Nokia N93? That’s right kids: the N93 is an all-new phone incorporating camcorder capabilities boasting a 3.2 megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics and 3x optical zoom.

If what Nokia claims is true, then consumers can look forward to DVD-like video capture, and later view it on a standard television thanks to the TV-out option. The bundled Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software will further assist in burning your high-quality home videos onto DVDs. This is virtually a camcorder with a phone attached. Videos can be captured in MPEG4 format at 30 fps. Read the rest of this entry »

Nokia N73

August 24th, 2006

Proving yet again why they are way ahead of the competition, Nokia unveiled another beauty today, the Nokia N73 in its high-end Nseries of mobile phones. Calling it the Ultimate Challenge to the digital camera, the N73 comes in a stylish package packed with a large 2.4″ display and 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics.

Remember when the 3.2 megapixel digital cameras came out and were all the rage? Well, you can think of the N73 as just that - with a phone and tons of other great stuff thrown in, including Flickr support. The camera also comes with autofocus feature. Nokia N72

August 24th, 2006

One of a trio of new Nseries devices announced by Nokia from Berlin today, the N72 is an interesting addition to the manufacturer’s multimedia handset range. With a size slightly smaller than the N70, the Nokia N72 is one of the smallest Nseries devices announced to date.

With a feature set similar to the N70, though with the absence of 3G technology, the Nokia N72 includes a 2.0 megapixel camera, 2.1″ 262k color display, and 20MB of internal memory with RS-MMC expansion. The Symbian/S60 based device is also one of the first from Nokia to support direct uploading to Flickr, a web-based photo sharing service, from the handset’s Camera and Gallery applications.

The Nokia N72 will hit the market during June this year, and will be available in both a gloss black or pearl pink finish.

Nokia N71

August 24th, 2006

The company of Nokia was the first to introduce a clamshell Symbian smartphone. As a result Nokia 6260 greatly distinguished from the majority in its firm-factor due to irrationally big size and weight, which even crossed the very presence of Symbian and flexible capabilities of the operating system. Also you couldn’t use the clamshell in a customary manner as it lacked external screen. And as a result the phone was not as popular in a technically advanced medium, as it was among glamour girls (at the beginning of sales), and after that among students and mid-level managers (after the start price reduced). That was not mass spread which added charm, no, the phone as either loved, or not. And then the Symbian line of clamshells represents developing two different product lines. Nokia E61

August 24th, 2006

The Nokia E61 boasts a vibrant and sharp screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a full array of wireless options (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UMTS). The Symbian smart phone also has good call quality, a speakerphone, the ability to view and edit Office documents, and robust e-mail capabilities. The Nokia E61 certainly isn’t for everyone, but with its powerful productivity apps, connectivity options, and good call quality, the smart phone will make a good addition a corporate user’s arsenal. Nokia 770 Internet Tablet

August 24th, 2006

Nokia announced the birth of a new product range with the launch of the Debian Linux powered Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. Looking a bit like a Nokia 7710 on steroids, being 13mm wider and 10 mm taller, the new 770 is meant to be a home Internet appliance that, get this, is not a phone at all.

That’s right; the 770 has no mobile phone inside. Instead it relies on its Bluetooth v1.2 and WiFi (802.11b) support to connect to the Internet either through your home WiFi router or via your Bluetooth compatible mobile phone. Nokia envisions the 770 as an inexpensive (about US$350) and convenient replacement for the 2nd or 3rd PC a family might have at home. It is the kind of device that you leave on the coffee table or on the night stand next to your bed. When you need to check your email or do a quick Internet search, you just power it on instantly (like a PDA) and have at it. Read the rest of this entry »
